Designing a unified platform for editorial content and leadership education
Chef brought together its magazine, educational programs, and training courses under one new digital platform following the merger with Chefakademin and Mgruppen. The project focused on creating a cohesive user experience that supports diverse content types while establishing a new, inclusive visual identity. As UX/UI Designer, I designed clear content structures and a flexible design system that balances editorial clarity with a playful, modern expression.

Background and role
Chef is a magazine and educational platform for managers that merged with Chefakademin and Mgruppen in 2021. Each organization contributed distinct forms of expertise—editorial content, leadership education, and training programs—which needed to be consolidated under a single platform at chef.se. My role as UX/UI Designer was to design a unified experience that allowed users to clearly understand different content types while supporting the transition into a new, shared brand and visual language.

Design approach, challenges, and outcomes
A central challenge was integrating editorial content, educational materials, and training offerings into a single platform without overwhelming users or diluting the identity of each contributor. I focused on designing clear content hierarchies—starting with differentiated blurbs and extending into article layouts and listing pages—to help users quickly understand what type of content they were engaging with. The visual direction intentionally avoided a traditional, rigid “manager magazine” aesthetic. By using a broad color palette, playful shapes, and layered compositions, the design delivered a more dynamic and approachable experience while still maintaining credibility. Navigation and footer design played an important role in reinforcing trust during the merger by clearly representing the combined entities. In collaboration with Qvalia, we also designed a custom subscription checkout flow that simplified invoice handling and gave users greater control over their profiles. Working closely with Chef’s Art Director enabled faster design alignment and smoother stakeholder approvals. The final outcome was a cohesive and inclusive platform that successfully unified three brands into one experience. The project deepened my understanding of stakeholder management, editorial workflows, and the impact design decisions have on web editors’ day-to-day work.
